  • 40Plus Conference Room***(Doors open at 9:30 for networking and the program starts promptly at 10:00.)

About The Presenter:

Debra R. Carter, SCSEP  National Director

Debra Carter is the National Director for the Senior Community Service Employment  Program (SCSEP) for the National Caucus and Center on Black Aged, Inc. (NCBA).   Debra began her career with NCBA six years ago as a Job Developer for one of the local  NCBA SCSEP offices.  After running a successful operation in Maryland, she was given  the opportunity to also oversee the District of Columbia’s SCSEP office and did  exceptionally well with both projects.  Hard work and perseverance paid off as she was  then promoted to oversee the NCBA National SCSEP program which services eight  states and the District of Columbia.

Prior to NCBA, Debra was the Executive Director of Sunrise Assisted Living in  Pikesville, Maryland.  This job would prepare her for NCBA as she learned every aspect  of seniors aging in place and the importance of motivating and caring for senior’s  physical and mental wellbeing.  She met her goals with unprecedented numbers often  exceeding what was expected of her.

The service industry has always been an integral part of Debra’s work history.  After  having brief courses in psychology and social work, she combined that knowledge with  her passion for cooking and obtained a culinary degree from the third top culinary college  in the United States where she taught culinary skills to the mentally challenged and  provided life skill counseling to clients in a psychosocial program in Maryland.  She was  vey successful in mainstreaming a large group of this population into the workforce.

Although caring for three special needs children prevented her from completing a formal  education, she would take on many challenges in the workforce and would become an  asset to every company who gave her the opportunity to utilize her talents.

Today, Debra maintains that of every negative situation, there is a positive lesson to be  learned.  She practices this theory in her day to day activities and in her professional  work environment.
