Monday Morning Speaker: Gary Vaughan

"How to Manage Social Media Tools for the Busy Professional?"

with SharePoint Governance Advisor at State Dept (Office of eDiplomacy / WINS Consulting) GARY VAUGHAN

This presentation will focus on how a professional can best select and integrate external social media tools while on the job.  A first step is to specify your business and professional goals in using social media (although some benefits will evolve!).

Then it is a question of how to sift through and prioritize the usage of various online tools to achieve these objectives, while balancing them with traditional media (TV, radio, newspaper) and personal networking, lunches and conferences...let alone your regular job responsibilities and deadlines!

While examples focus on social media support for an IT consulting career, these tools should be generally applicable to any profession.

Gary will draw from his own experience over the past year in using the free BlogTalkRadio (BTR) online software as an interview and podcast tool (and "centerpiece" for his social media presence).  His primary social media goals are professional growth and "branding", with a secondary goal of identifying or staffing specific business opportunities.  He has mixed in BTR with a TypePad blog, LinkedIn profile/discussions, and Twitter posting/following (@glvaughan), in addition to traditional email messaging (Hotmail) coupled with access via mobile devices.

He will also note the importance of continuing education (both in-person classes and online training) and certification (PMP), and sum up his usage of all these tools to develop a second career as a SharePoint Program Manager, Governance Advisor and Enterprise Content Manager.
