Walter Abbott was a risk management and business insurance consultant for several national insurance brokerage firms for 30 years, handling all types of clients from small businesses to Fortune 500 corporations. After early retirement, he formed Abbott Business Consultants, LLC, a small business risk management consulting firm, working primarily with one of the largest construction companies in the US.
While still consulting, Walt joined the DC Chapter of the Small Business Administration’s Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE), the nation’s largest network of free, expert business mentors across 67 industries. It’s dedicated to entrepreneur education and the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide. It offers an extensive array of free tools, templates, and tips, as well as confidential business counseling.
As a SCORE Mentor for the past 15 years, Walt helps start and grow businesses through his extensive local networking connections and four decades of experience in risk management and insurance. On the Board of SCORE DC and its Outreach Chair for the past nine years, Walt has been attending numerous small business events, giving workshops and spreading the word about SCORE's fantastic, free mentoring opportunities.
